Meituan expands beyond delivery into automotive services

China’s Meituan has formed a strategic partnership with Passion Tech to integrate vehicle data, parts, and automotive services directly into its platform. Reported on 19 January 2026, the collaboration will cover around 30 vehicle brands and more than 10,000 authorised dealers, marking Meituan’s most concrete move yet into the automotive services marketplace.

The partnership signals Meituan’s intent to extend its ecosystem beyond food delivery and local services into high-frequency vehicle ownership needs. By embedding automotive data and services into its existing user flows, Meituan aims to capture a larger share of consumer spending tied to mobility, maintenance, and after-sales support.

Why automotive services fit Meituan’s super-app model

Meituan has built one of China’s largest local-services platforms by aggregating everyday consumer needs into a single interface. Food delivery, grocery, travel bookings, and local lifestyle services already sit within its ecosystem, creating frequent user engagement and deep data insight.

Automotive services represent a logical extension of this model. Vehicle owners require regular maintenance, parts replacement, inspections, and service bookings. These needs align closely with Meituan’s strengths in on-demand logistics, merchant aggregation, and service discovery.

Passion Tech brings domain expertise to this expansion. The company operates as an AI-driven automotive data and services provider, supporting dealerships, parts suppliers, and service networks with vehicle intelligence and operational tools. Together, the two companies aim to lower friction between car owners and service providers.

What the Meituan–Passion Tech partnership enables

Under the partnership, Meituan will integrate vehicle information, compatible parts listings, and service options across its platform. Users will be able to access model-specific data, locate authorised dealers, and book services without leaving the Meituan ecosystem.

For merchants, the integration offers improved visibility and demand access. Dealerships and service centres can reach Meituan’s massive user base while benefiting from data-driven matching between vehicles, parts, and service requirements. This reduces inefficiency and improves conversion rates.

The partnership also strengthens Meituan’s data layer. Automotive data adds a new dimension to user profiles, enabling more targeted recommendations and bundled services. Over time, this could support additional offerings such as insurance referrals, extended warranties, or fleet services.

Platform companies are redefining auto after-sales markets

Meituan’s move reflects a broader shift in China’s digital economy. Platform companies are increasingly entering vertical service markets once dominated by fragmented offline providers. Automotive after-sales services, in particular, remain inefficient and data-poor despite their size.

By combining AI-driven vehicle data with a high-traffic consumer platform, Meituan and Passion Tech are attempting to standardise discovery, pricing, and service access. This mirrors earlier transformations seen in food delivery and local services, where platforms reshaped consumer behaviour and merchant operations.

However, automotive services carry higher complexity. Trust, safety, and regulatory compliance matter more than speed alone. Success will depend on service quality, accurate data, and strong dealer relationships rather than aggressive discounting.

How automotive services could scale on Meituan

In the near term, the partnership is likely to focus on major urban centres, where vehicle density and digital adoption are highest. Early traction in these markets could validate the model and attract more brands and dealers.

Over the medium term, Meituan could expand into predictive maintenance and lifecycle services, using data to prompt timely repairs or replacements. Integration with logistics and local fulfilment may also enable faster parts delivery and mobile servicing.

Longer term, automotive services could become a stable, recurring revenue stream within Meituan’s broader ecosystem. As electric vehicles and connected cars gain share, demand for data-driven service platforms is expected to rise, creating additional opportunities for expansion.

A calculated push into China’s automotive services economy

The partnership between Meituan and Passion Tech marks a calculated expansion beyond Meituan’s core delivery business into automotive marketplace services. By integrating vehicle data, parts, and service access, the platform is positioning itself closer to the full spectrum of everyday consumer needs.

While execution risks remain, the move highlights how China’s leading tech platforms continue to seek growth through ecosystem expansion rather than single-product innovation. If successful, automotive services could become a meaningful new pillar in Meituan’s long-term strategy.
