Indonesian island secures top honors for global and honeymoon travel appeal
Bali has clinched the #2 spot in TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards in both the “Top Destinations — World” and “Honeymoon Destinations” categories. This double win reinforces Bali’s global appeal and highlights Indonesia’s successful tourism revival post-pandemic. The recognition also positions Bali as a premium destination for both romantic and adventure-seeking travelers.
A decades-long ascent to global renown
For decades, Bali has attracted international travelers with its lush landscapes, spiritual culture, pristine beaches, and high-end hospitality. The island frequently features in global travel rankings, but this year’s achievement marks its highest placement to date—just behind Dubai. It is a testament to Bali’s continued evolution as a destination offering both luxury and authenticity.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has long championed Bali as the country’s tourism crown jewel. Key government investments have focused on improving infrastructure, increasing international flight access, and pushing sustainable tourism policies. TripAdvisor’s award is based on millions of reviews, highlighting positive traveler experiences in accommodation, attractions, and hospitality.
According to TripAdvisor, Bali earned top marks in categories such as wellness retreats, romantic stays, cultural exploration, and beach holidays. The data reflects a broad spectrum of traveler satisfaction across all types of journeys.
Visa access, digital nomads, and sustainability
To strengthen its appeal, Indonesia has implemented tourism-friendly reforms. The visa-on-arrival program now extends to over 90 countries, and a new “Second Home Visa” supports long-term stays for digital nomads and retirees. These changes make visiting and living in Bali easier and more attractive.
Bali’s government also introduced a tourism tax of around $10 per visitor. The funds support environmental conservation and cultural preservation projects. This initiative, praised by sustainability experts, aligns with global travel trends focused on responsible tourism.
In addition, Bali has hosted major global events like the G20 Summit in 2022 and the World Water Forum in 2024. These gatherings boost the island’s global reputation and showcase its capacity to host international conferences and events.
Bali’s brand stays relevant year after year
Bali stands out for its versatility. It appeals to many types of travelers—from budget-conscious backpackers to luxury honeymooners, wellness seekers to creative professionals. Its blend of tradition and innovation ensures lasting relevance, even as travel trends shift.
Over 18,000 accommodation options, hundreds of wellness centers, and a thriving food and arts scene contribute to Bali’s tourism strength. A new generation of local entrepreneurs is leading many of these businesses, infusing modern design and international standards while staying true to Balinese culture.
Meanwhile, continued investment in infrastructure—from airport upgrades to smart traffic systems—supports both convenience and long-term scalability. Bali’s swift rebound from the pandemic also demonstrates its resilience and adaptability.
Indonesia’s broader tourism vision
This recognition comes as Indonesia sets ambitious goals: attracting 25 million international visitors by the end of 2025. Bali already accounts for nearly 40% of those arrivals. But the government is actively promoting “10 New Balis”—emerging destinations across the country intended to distribute tourism growth more evenly.
Still, Bali remains central to the national tourism strategy. Future plans include more direct flights from Europe and North America, improved digital services for visitors, and deeper collaborations with global hospitality brands.
As tourism becomes more focused on sustainability, inclusivity, and personalization, Bali is already adapting. From promoting low-emission travel to supporting creative industry growth, the island is well-positioned to set the benchmark for destination management in developing economies.
Bali’s rise mirrors Indonesia’s tourism transformation
Bali’s position as the world’s #2 travel destination in TripAdvisor’s 2025 awards reflects more than its natural beauty. It is the outcome of smart policies, community engagement, and a clear national vision for tourism. As Indonesia expands its tourism reach, Bali continues to lead—balancing popularity with meaningful, memorable travel experiences.
